“Hillary Clinton is not that fascinating a person. According to those who have spent time with her, she’s harsh and demanding. According to those who haven’t — like her husband — she’s a delight.” — Ben Shapiro
My father used to say, “I never got into trouble for something I didn’t say.” Donald Trump found out last week that this is not true, especially if the lynch mob liberal media want to attack a nonconformist candidate for frivolous reasons.
Trump artfully dodged a question last Thursday from a man at a New Hampshire town hall meeting who began with Barack Obama’s being a Muslim and “not even American.”
This was just 24 hours after the Republican debate on CNN, where Trump was attacked not only by his fellow GOP candidates but also the panel. The candidate put in a solid performance and is still first place in the polls.
Yet one has to wonder if there is going to be a constant battering ram slammed into Trump’s candidacy by the Democrats, Republicans and the media, which raises the question: Does he have a chance to be the first president elected since the American oligarchy picked Lyndon Johnson?
In New Hampshire the first question out the gate sounded almost like it came from a plant in the crowd: “We have a problem in this country, it’s called Muslims. We know our current president is one.”
At that point, Trump said uneasily, “Right.”
The questioner then added: “You know he’s not even an American, birth certificate man.”
Trump answered: “We need this question? This is the first question.”
The questioner finished by saying: “But anyway, we have training camps growing where they want to kill us. That’s my question: When can we get rid of them?”
The outspoken billionaire was about as vague as I have ever heard him when presented a question: “We are going to be looking at a lot of different things. A lot of people are saying that, and you know, a lot of people are saying bad things are happening out there. We’re going to be looking at that and plenty of other things.”
Next question.
The next day, the outrage against Trump for not setting the man straight that President Barack Obama is a good Christian was spewing out of major newspapers as well as all the networks (including Fox News, which really should come as no surprise because Trump is not a Republican cutout).
On the political TV talk programs this past Sunday, Democrats, Republicans and political pundits attacked Trump for keeping his mouth shut and not acting like John McCain did in 2008 when he denounced an old lady for calling Obama an Arab.
Few pointed out that, when polled, nearly half of Americans either believe Obama is Muslim or say they are unsure. Something else nobody pointed out is that McCain lost the election to Obama.
But the most blistering attack came from the Wicked Witch of the Left, struggling Democratic campaigner for the presidency, Hillary Clinton. Last Friday, Clinton spoke of her outrage:
Well, I was appalled. … He should have, from the beginning, repudiated that kind of rhetoric, that level of hatefulness in a questioner in an audience that he was appearing before.
Clinton added she would have called out the questioner. “[T]hat has no place in a political discussion,” she said, adding that the assertions were “totally, factually untrue.”
Hillary is appalled easy for someone who has been in a relationship with husband Bill for more than 40 years, but she also has short-term memory loss about the derogatory things she has said both on and off the record.
During the 2008 election, the Obama team accused Hillary of using the Muslim question as a way to raise doubts about Obama. A photo showed Obama in a white headdress and matching robes during a visit to Kenya.
Obama’s campaign chief was angry, claiming the image had been leaked by the Clinton campaign to stoke fears of terrorism by leaking this photo that associates Obama with similar pictures of Osama Bin Laden.
On Feb. 26, 2008, Daily Mail reported:
Susan Rice, Mr Obama’s foreign policy adviser, claimed circulation of the photograph was divisive, and suggested “the customs and cultures of other parts of the world are worthy of ridicule or condemnation.”
But Mrs Clinton’s election team angrily dismissed the claims, saying it was Mr Obama’s response to the leak which was offensive.
“Enough,” said Maggie Williams, Mrs Clinton’s campaign manager. “If Barack Obama’s campaign wants to suggest a photo of him wearing traditional clothing is divisive, they should be ashamed.
Speaking of being ashamed, Hillary has quite a bit to be ashamed of, according to former Newsweek editor Edward Klein, who wrote about the Clintons and the Obamas in his 2014 book, “Blood Feud.”
On June 26, 2014, Daily Mail reported on the tell-all book:
Hillary Clinton berated President Barack Obama as ‘incompetent and feckless’ and said he had become ‘a joke’ after having one too many glasses of wine at a reunion dinner last year with friends from college, a new tell-all book reveals.
‘When her friends asked Hillary to tell them what she thought — really thought — about the president she had served for four draining years, she lit into Obama with a passion that surprised them all,’ former Newsweek editor Edward Klein writes in his book Blood Feud.
‘”The thing with Obama is that he can’t be bothered and there is no hand on the tiller half the time,”‘ Clinton is said to have barked in her boozy rant. ‘That’s the story of the Obama presidency. No hand on the f***ing tiller.’
Regardless of who has said what in the past, Trump’s detractors face a major contradiction. On the one hand, they are mortified that anyone can even consider Obama a Muslim; but almost all want to proclaim that Islam is a peaceful, productive religion that America should embrace.
After video surfaced of the September 2012 Benghazi attack, Clinton said: “To us, to me personally, this video is disgusting and reprehensible. It appears to have a deeply cynical purpose: to denigrate a great religion and provoke rage.”
So which is it, Hillary? Is Islam a great religion anyone would be proud to be a member of, or is saying Obama is Muslim a dreadful slander?
It is all nonsense in the end. Important are the organized attacks by the left and right against Trump. If you have read my columns, you know I am not a big backer of Trump. But my respect for him is growing as the rich and powerful people who control America incessantly work to destroy his candidacy. If he can survive it all, it will say much about his fortitude. More importantly, it will say that this one time, at least, Americans will not swallow Big Brother’s propaganda.
Yours in good times and bad,
–John Myers
