Secret Service used mob tactics on congressman

The Secret Service’s motto is, “Worthy of Trust and Confidence.” Its can now credibly change its motto to, “Worthy of Fear and Intimidation.”

A report released Wednesday by Homeland Security Department’s inspector general, John Roth, concluded the Secret Service attempted to intimidate and embarrass the Republican congressman charged with uncovering its fraud, waste, and abuse.

“Police State USA: How Orwell’s Nightmare Is Becoming Our Reality” chronicles how America has arrived at the point of being a de facto police state, and what led to an out-of-control government that increasingly ignores the Constitution. Order today!

Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, was targeted for retaliation because of his investigations into the agency.

“Some information that he might find embarrassing needs to get out. Just to be fair,” Secret Service Assistant Director Ed Lowery said in an email to another director March 31, ABC News reported.

The document, gleaned from a restricted database, was seen by 45 employees after the congressman began looking into the agency’s scandals and shortcomings.

On April 2, 2015, an unsuccessful Secret Service job application submitted by Chaffetz in 2003 was leaked.

Roth’s investigation into the leaked document found staff members in the president’s protective detail, the public affairs office, the office of investigations and elsewhere all read Chaffetz’s file, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.

“I am confident that U.S. Secret Service Director Joe Clancy will take appropriate action to hold accountable those who violated any laws or the policies of this department,” said Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson on Wednesday. “Activities like those described in the report must not, and will not, be tolerated.”

Johnson personally apologized to Chaffetz for the Secret Service’s behavior, ABC reported.

“It’s intimidating,” Chaffetz said of the ordeal, the network reported. “It’s what it was supposed to be.”

Roth said employees involved in the leak may have violated the the U.S. Privacy Act.

“It doesn’t take a lawyer explaining the nuances of the Privacy Act to know that the conduct that occurred here — by dozens of agents in every part of the agency was wrong,” said Roth.

Prior to leaking Chaffetz’s application, the congressman grilled Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy March 24 over the agency’s inability to quickly secure the scene of a suspicious package in Washington, D.C.

“This is what is so infuriating you’re the director of the Secret Service,” Chaffetz said during the hearing, the Blaze reported. “It’s almost three weeks after the incident, and you don’t know why it takes 11 minutes to pick the phone and say, ‘Hey, Metro Police Department, we’ve got a problem down here, we need your help.’ … It takes 27 minutes to secure the scene. What if it was a real bomb? What if it was a real bomb? … Who are you holding accountable?”

Clancy told the congressman he was “going to wait” before being cut off.

“You’re going to wait. That’s the problem!” said Chaffetz.

Lowery denied to investigators that he directed anyone to leak Chaffetz’s application, the Washington Post reported. He framed the email as an innocuous attempt at venting frustration.
