Americans sign petition to ban public discussion on religion and politics

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. — The 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

In his latest “man on the street” video, California prankster and liberty activist Mark Dice collects dozens of signatures from Americans willing to throw away their constitutionally protected rights to free speech.

Dice asked San Diego beachgoers to sign a petition to ban discussions about “politics and religion” in public, particularly on the city’s beaches.

“We don’t really need people talking about politics and religion out in public, right?” Dice asks one man, who says he agrees.

“There’s a time and a place for those kind of discussions,” Dice continues. “And we’re just trying to mute peoples’ political and religious speech — just when they’re in public, though.”

“Awesome, thank you. Have a good day,” one woman says after signing.

The scene played out over and over, with just one woman declining to sign away her free speech rights.

“Yeah. I’m sorry. I’m going to have to pass on that,” the woman says, adding that she doesn’t believe public discussions about politics and religion are problematic.
