Radaronline.com may have been duped by an individual purporting to be a computer specialist who claims to have obtained 32,000 messages from Hillary Clinton’s private account.
The website is receiving national attention for a story Thursday reporting the “computer specialist” is selling Clinton’s emails to the highest bidder and is asking for $500,000.
The specialist makes the highly unlikely claim that “Hillary or someone from her camp erased the outbox containing her emails, but forgot to erase the emails that were in her sent box.”
To solidify his or her credentials, Radaronline.com is reporting “the specialist is showing subject lines as proof of what appear to be legitimate messages.”
The website then purports to exclusively reveal six subject lines from messages sent to Clinton and allegedly obtained by the “computer specialist.”
However, it seems Radaronline.com failed to conduct due diligence, including simple Web searches on the subject lines in question. The website would have discovered that another hacker obtained and released those same subject lines and more two years ago.
The “specialist,” seeking legitimacy, curiously gave Radaronline.com six subject lines that happened to have all been released in March 2013 when a hacker using the alias “Guccifer” posted screen grabs from the AOL email account of longtime Clinton confident Sidney Blumenthal.
In fact, every email subject line allegedly obtained by the “specialist” and posted by Radaronline.com was posted two years ago as a screen grab by Gawker.com, which first reported on the “Guccifer” hackings.
“Guccifer” reportedly hacked Blumenthal’s email in March 2013. Guccifer has since been identified as Marcel Lazar Lehel, a Romanian hacker serving a seven-year sentence for hacking into the accounts of Romanian government officials.
Reported Radaronline Thursday: “Radaronline has learned that some of the topics discussed in the email appear to include everything from Benghazi to the Algerian hostage crisis — with subject lines such as:
“H Libya security latest. Sid” (with attachment)
“H FYI, best analysis so far of hearing Sid,’ about the latest security
in Libya”
“H Algeria latest French Intel on Algeria hostage Sid”
“H Latest French Intel in Algeria hostage Sid” (with attachment)
“H Latest Libya intel internal govt discussions high level” (with
attachment)
“H HIGHLY IMPORTANT! Comprehensive Intel Report on (with attachment)”
All of those subject lines and more were posted in the same descending order by Gawker two years ago after the website obtained the screen grabs.
