Donald Trump, the front-runner in the Republican primary for president, and Fox News chief Roger Ailes, have scheduled a sit-down to discuss and air what’s become an obvious clash of opinion on what constitutes fair campaign coverage.

“Fox News chairman & CEO Roger Ailes and Donald Trump spoke,” said one Fox spokesperson in a statement distributed to media, “and plan to have a meeting next week to discuss their differences of opinion regarding Fox’s coverage of Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign. Ailes will be joined by senior Fox editorial executives.”

The Hill reported the two spoke by phone just hours after Trump announced he would boycott the cable outlet over perceived unfair coverage, as reported by WND. A Fox spokesperson, meanwhile, refuted that boycott claim and said Trump was actually dropped from the cable outlet’s “O’Reilly Factor” lineup and subsequently took to Twitter in anger.

Either way, the billionaire businessman and the cable giant have been suffering tense relations of late. Trump has taken to Twitter to call out Fox News coverage since the first presidential primary debate, when he took umbrage at questions from host Megyn Kelly and tweeted she was a “bimbo.” From there, relations have only soured further.

But a more amicable relationship may be on the horizon, depending on the outcome of the Trump-Ailes talk.

“Mr. Trump believes he has been treated unfairly in certain instance,” the Fox spokesperson said, the Hill reported. “fox News has held every candidate in this race to the highest journalistic standards throughout our coverage. We believe a candid meeting about our differences is required and that any misunderstandings can be handled without compromising those standards.”
