Sen. Ted Cruz on Wednesday used CNN’s debate for GOP presidential candidates to double down on his push to defund Planned Parenthood, which is been in the headlines for weeks ago as a pro-life activist group has released a multitude of undercover videos.
They address the topic of the baby body parts trade run by Planned Parenthood, and feature statements from Planned Parenthood executives about what a public relations disaster it would be for the public to find out that some abortionists are profiting from the trade.
The videos also reveal several Planned Parenthood executives callously discussing the price of body parts, and insisting on being paid “per specimen,” even though it’s illegal to profit from the sale of baby body parts in America.
One Planned Parenthood executive insists on not being “low-balled” in her payments, because “I want a Lamborghini.”
Debate moderator Dana Bash noted that Sen. Lindsey Graham, during the undercard debate, had said Cruz’s government shutdown tactic would destroy the GOP’s ability to win the general election.
Cruz responded, “We see Planned Parenthood executives callously bartering, selling the body parts of human beings.”
He said people should ask themselves, “Are these my values? These are horrifying.”
The Texas senator noted it’s a felony with a 10-year jail term to sell the body parts of unborn children for profit.
“Absolutely we shouldn’t be sending taxpayer money to funding an ongoing criminal enterprise,” Cruz said.
He then chastised Republican leadership in Congress for “preemptively surrendering to Obama” by saying a government shutdown was off the table.
“You know, Obama’s committed to his principles, his liberal principles. He will fight for them,” Cruz said. “I will veto any budget that does not defund Planned Parenthood. It’s time to stop surrendering our principles and start defending them.”
