Police were searching for a college shooter.
Police in California were scouring the area of Sacramento City College for a gunman who shot three people, killing one, and then fled the scene.
Fox News reported the male shooter was shirtless. He may have been fully dressed at some point, however. NBC News described the suspect as a male of Pacific Island heritage who was dressed in a white t-shirt and beige cargo shorts.
Sacramento police Sgt. Doug Morris said one of the victims was declared dead at the scene, in a parking lot near the baseball fields on the campus. A second victim was treated at a nearby hospital and considered in serious condition; the third was only slightly hurt, by a bullet’s grazing.
Los Rios Community College District police said they initially thought there were two suspects. Morris, however, clarified they’re now only seeking one.
Rick Brewer, college spokesman, told NBC News students and staff have been evacuated.
Police said the shooting began after an argument broke out between the suspect and the victims, all men.
“My stomach dropped,” said student Lars Beesom to NBC affiliate KCRA. “It was definitely really, really scary but we all stayed calm.”
Meanwhile, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said the shooting was an “unthinkable tragedy,” NBC News said.
