Orange isn’t the new black

Yesterday, anti-Bill of Rights hate groups like (not really) Everytown and (not all) Moms Demand sponsored a nationwide challenge to people to “wear orange for (so-called) ‘gun violence’ awareness.” The timing worked out perfectly, as the smoke from the murder-suicide on the campus of UCLA had barely cleared.

Thus, armed with the usual righteous indignation and leftist ignorance, they threw themselves another of their shrieking parties, complete with craven exploitation of a tragedy they actually helped to create.  More on that in a moment.

The orange soiree arrived mere days after disgraced ex-journalist Katie Couric’s film “Under the Gun” stovepiped badly. The film, which earned endorsements from not only the anti-liberty crowd but the White House itself, turned out to be a bigger sham than so-called “global warming.” Unlike the famous videos proving Planned Parenthood is a real-life Rob Zombie film on amphetamines, Couric’s debunked anti-gun screed was edited for both time and content; hacked together like one of those “Real Housewives” shows. Even as our leftist friends were donning their best tangerine duds, the film was headed to the non-premium lineup of a little-watched cable channel named “EPIX;” the TV equivalent of the remaindered rack at a bookstore.

And then, UCLA happened. A person whose sanity had taken a powder murdered an engineering professor (William S. Klug, by the way. The orange-frocked crowd was too busy blaming so-called “gun violence” to learn his name). While the usual suspects were fogging up the public discourse with exhortations about “school shootings,” I couldn’t help but notice the real common thread linking what happened at UCLA and the scenes of murders from Los Angeles to Long Island: the kill boxes which liberals call “gun-free zones.”

UCLA’s campus is a “gun-free” zone. Los Angeles is in California, which has sported firearms laws worthy of the Soviet Union since the Soviet Union was still a thing. Just like the massacres at San Bernardino, Sandy Hook, Fort Hood and every other “school shooting” liberals will hurl like a rhetorical hand grenade: disarmed, defenseless people, herded like livestock into “gun-free” zones to be slaughtered like babies in a Planned Parenthood “clinic.”

And yet, in the wake of every one of these senseless tragedies, the be-oranged set demands more restrictions on not only citizens’ rights to defend themselves, but their right to know that their children and loved ones are safe from the thugs and lunatics to whom anti-gun laws are practically “Open For Business” signs. Furthermore, the very same leftists, who think only police officers should have guns, have clearly demonstrated through their support of the Black Lives Matter movement that they don’t trust the police either; leaving potential victims theoretically stuck — undefended — between thugs the left won’t acknowledge and cops the left doesn’t trust.

It’s worth noting that these same orange-clothed “activists” who are committed to “safe spaces,” “trigger warnings,” “participation trophies” and anything else they can dream up to “protect” kids from imagined harm are even more committed to ensuring that no one is even capable of protecting them from actual, physical, harm.

The biggest gulf between the anti-liberty types who wear orange to celebrate “gun-free zones,” and the pro-liberty types who wear orange because they’re going hunting, tends to be the former group’s lack of understanding of guns, gun owners and the Bill of Rights. In fact, even a casual look at or listen to the left’s cacophonous yelping about guns reveals that what the average anti-gun “activist” knows about firearms could fit in a spent .17 HMR casing.

The left’s ignorance, especially when it comes to firearms, has never been endearing. But, as thugs, lunatics and even Islamofascist terrorists have proven over the last few years by turning “gun-free” zones into free-fire zones, their ignorance is now threatening our very lives.

Liberals are fond of pointing to the proliferation of firearms as cause for “school shootings” and “gun violence.” They’re less fond of being reminded that the most violent places in America are the urban slums of the cities with the strictest gun laws. Guns don’t have a causal relationship to crime; if they did, placid communities in places liberals fly over would be ghost towns. But “gun-free” zones and draconian gun laws do.  Wear all the orange you want; just remember to wear black to the funerals.
