Donald Trump reached into what used to be enemy territory – a competing Republican primary camp – and plucked from the Sen. Ted Cruz campaign trail a man to do his communications, Jason Miller.
Christian groups are already applauding.
“I think that’s a good development,” said Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, of Trump’s hiring of Miller as senior advisor for communications, Bloomberg Politics reported. “I think Donald Trump really has been the messenger for the campaign and … with this Supreme Court decision [on abortioin] it shows they need to be on top of it.”
Miller, a partner and vice president for Jamestown Associates, a campaign consulting firm in Washington, D.C., most recently served on Cruz’s presidential campaign as a senior communications adviser.
His new role with Trump places him in the top dog position for all of the campaign’s messaging with the news media.
Miller’s hiring comes as the Trump camp has moved to professionalize operations, and it’s just a drop in the bucket of what’s likely to come by way of new hirings. As Bloomberg Politics reported, the campaign is currently looking to bring on more state directors and campaign aides who can take the ground game to a new, more focused level.
Miller’s hiring also comes just a few days after campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was let go.
“I think [Trump will] be helped greatly by having a communications team who can get these messages out in a timely fashion,” said Perkins, who previously fell on the side of supporting Cruz for president.
