IT expert Jon Hendren had a little fun at HLN’s expense during a recent interview by answering questions about Edward Scissorhands, the character played by Johnny Depp in a 1990 film, rather than NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden. Remarkably, host Yasmin Vossoughian appeared not to notice.
Hendren, introduced as a Snowden supporter, at first appears to take the interview seriously.
“Why is Snowden any different from ISIS?” host Yasmin Vossoughian asked.
“He’s a hero, he’s doing what any one of us should’ve done in that situation,” Hendren replied. “He’s got a voice, he’s been isolated for so long. He’s got valid things to say, we should listen to what he says.”
From there, his stunt became more obvious.
“I think to cast him out, to make him invalid in society, simply because he has scissors for hands, I mean that’s strange,” Hendren said. “I mean people didn’t get scared until he started sculpting shrubs into dinosaur shapes and what not.”
The oblivious host, meanwhile, continued with her anti-Snowden script.
“Now, Snowden’s living in Russia,” the anchor said. “Some people say it’s hypocritical that Snowden has asylum in Russia. Russia has a lot of human rights violations.”
Hendren retorted: “Casting him out is completely wrong. We’re treating him like an animal, somebody who should be quarantined and put away. Just because he was created on top of a mountain by Vincent Price, and incomplete, with scissors for hands and no heart…Edward Scissorhands is a complete hero to me.”
“But what about the choice he made to live in a country like Russia?” the anchor asked.
“I mean, where else is he going to go? You know?” Hendren replied. “We cast him out. We got scared when he poked a hole in a waterbed with his scissor fingers, and that was unreasonable of us.”
“Well, Jon,” said Vossoughian, “I appreciate you giving us your opinion.”
It’s also worth noting that the news network failed to discern that Hendren’s Twitter handle, @fart, which producers at one point put on the screen, might be an indicator that he wouldn’t take them seriously.
Thanks fart, for giving us one more reason to avoid MSM’s robots in the daily search for enlightening information.
