WND columnist purchases 2 television stations

WND columnist Armstrong Williams has purchased another two television stations – KVMY in Las Vegas and WLYH in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The moves push him into the position of being the head of the largest black-owned station chain in the nation.

His announcement was carried in the Washington Times.

He’s the manager-sole owner of Howard Stirk Holdings I & II Broadcast Television Stations and also is executive editor of American Current.

He also appears on the “Right Side Forum” which broadcasts weekly on Saturdays.

And he’s the business manager for Republican GOP president front-runner Dr. Ben Carson.

The Times report noted he now holds seven stations – of the 12 that are black-owned in the U.S. There are 2,119 stations nationwide.

Williams told the Times he’s not finished, either.

“We want to reinforce the kind of values and virtues that make America great,” Williams said. “We want the kind of shows that families can sit down and watch and be proud of. We want people to know that you don’t always have to lead with what bleeds. We want to uplift people we want to give people real self-esteem and real worth.”

Marcus Mullings, Stirk vice president, told the Times, “One of the things that we’re proud of is the fact that probably 75 percent of our workforce are minorities. We truly celebrate diversity. Almost 50 percent of that workforce is women. When you talk about the issue of black men not finding jobs, the issue of inequality, 55 percent of our work force is black men.”

Williams started out in station ownership just two years ago with a deal involving Sinclair Broadcasting that allowed him to purchase the license assets of two stations previously owned by Barrington Broadcasting.

Those are WEYI in Flint, Michigan, and WWMB in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

He since then has purchased five other stations.

The Times reported the black with the next largest ownership interest is Pluria Marshall Jr., who runs Marshall Broadcasting Group and its three stations.
