Sen. Ted Cruz’s father says LGBT activists will move to legalize pedophilia.

Pastor Rafael Cruz told Buzzfeed on Wednesday it is only a matter of time before activists seek to normalize the psychiatric disorder.

“I think that’s the next thing that they’re going to push, to try to legalize pedophiles,” Cruz said at the World Congress of Families, and annual gathering of conservatives in Salt Lake City, Utah. “Pedophilia, you have all these laws to forget about – we have laws on the books about statutory rape. You have to basically throw away the statutory rape laws to legalize pedophilia.”

Cruz’s statement to Buzzfeed took place immediately after a panel titled: “Marriage and the Family.”

“We have a lot of apathy and a lot of ignorance. But we need to be cognizant of something that is called sexual orientation and gender identity ordinances – SOGI ordinances,” Cruz added in response to an attendee’s question on links between the LGBT community and pedophilia. “SOGI ordinances are very stealthily being promoted into a lot of communities like the one in Houston. We need to be very aware of what’s happening in the city council level passing these SOGI ordinances which are actually promoting this sexual orientation and gender identity to be part of the curriculum in public schools.”

Houston residents  are set to vote on a such a nondiscrimination law next Tuesday, the website reported.

Janice Shaw Crouse, the executive director for the World Congress for Families IX, told Buzzfeed on Wednesday the pastor’s remarks do not represent the organization.

“[Cruz’s remarks] are not those of the World Congress of Families. Collectively, the World Congress of Families’ agenda advocates for life and the natural family in a civil, constructive and transparent way,” Crouse said in a statement.

The pastor’s remarks came hours before his son wowed Republican primary voters during CNBC’s debate from Boulder, Colorado. The Texas senator had one of the most memorable lines of the night while speaking on media bias.

“Let me say something at the outset, the questions asked in this debate illustrate why the American people don’t trust the media,” Sen. Cruz said to John Harwood of The New York Times, CNBC anchor Carl Quintanilla and anchorwoman Rebecca Quick. “This is not a cage match. And you look at the questions – Donald Trump, are you a comic book villain? Ben Carson, can you do math? John Kasich, will you insult two people over here? Marco Rubio, why don’t you resign? Jeb Bush, why have your numbers fallen? How about talking about the substantive issues. … The contrast with the Democratic debate, where every thought and question from the media was, which of you is more handsome and why?”

Cruz’s response drew cheers from the crowd.

An unscientific CNBC poll taken immediately after the debate crowned Donald Trump the winner with 45.9 percent of viewers, compared to 19.88 percent for Cruz.
