Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican Party nominee for president, told viewers of the “O’Reilly Factor” on Fox News that if elected to the White House, he wouldn’t place any more limits on the sales of certain types and models of firearms.
The AR-15, in particular, has come under attack by Democrats who say American civilians ought not have access to buy and own the weapon.
“On the guns, I wouldn’t [limit sales of models] because again, it’s a question of protection,” he said, to host Bill O’Reilly. “And also, once you start, where do you end? Where do you end?”
Trump’s comments came on the heels of reports he was meeting with the National Rifle Association to discuss gun policy, including the future of AR-15 sales, and on chatter he would consider “no fly, no buy” bans that would prevent those on terror watch lists from purchasing firearms. Critics of “no fly, no buy” say it’s a Second Amendment disaster waiting to happen because it lets bureaucrats – the government authorities who decide who is placed on lists – in essence override firearms’ rights.
But on the “no fly, no buy” matter, Trump doubled down and said he still favors that provision.
“Absolutely,” he said, when asked if he supports such policy, the Hill reported. “Who would not agree with that? The watch list to me is very important.”
Trump also said he’s not going to consider limits to the number of allowable rounds of ammunition for particular firearms.

“Well, the big guns, first of all, are the same guns the enemy has and that people that can break into your home or do what this maniac did over the weekend,” Trump said, referring to Omar Mateen, the radical Islamist Muslim who shot and killed 49 and injured 53 in a terror attack on the gay nightclub, Pulse.
“And the big guns are the same guns,” Trump said, the Hill reported. “[People] mostly use them for recreation, Bill. … My sons are in the NRA. So am I. People use them for recreation.”
Trump’s statements also came as the Senate, controlled by Republicans, rejected four gun control measures aimed at expanding background checks and preventing those on terror watch lists from purchasing firearms.
