Hillary Clinton didn’t wait for the echoes from Donald Trump’s hard-hitting speech Wednesday morning to go silent before firing back at the presumptive GOP nominee.

As WND reported, Trump called Clinton a “world-class liar,” highlighting her failures as secretary of state, linking her to Wall Street “special interests” and accusing her of practicing the “politics of personal profit.”

“She gets rich making you poor. … Hillary Clinton may be the most corrupt person ever to seek the office of the presidency,” Trump said.

But, with the exception of a defense of The Clinton Foundation, it wasn’t the substance of Trump’s charges that Clinton addressed in her speech.

Speaking to supporters at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, Clinton took the opportunity to hit back at an earlier Trump comment questioning her Methodist faith.

Quoting John Wesley, founder of Methodism, she said, “As we Methodists like to say: do all the good you can for all the people you can in all the ways you can.

“Think about it,” she continued. “He’s going after me personally because he has no answers on the substance. So all he can try to do is try to distract us. That’s why he’s attacking my faith. Sigh.”

Accusing Trump of “outlandish lies,” Clinton said the Republican candidate “offers no real solutions” for the U.S. economy and that his “reckless ideas” will run up the debt and “drive America back into recession.”

“We need to make sure our economy works for everyone, not just those at the top,” Clinton said. “Not just for the rich or the well-connected.”

The truth is even worse than what you thought. “Hillary: The Other Woman,” the explosive new book exposing the horrible history of Bill and Hillary Clinton. Available now at the WND Superstore.

Focusing predominantly on the economy, Clinton said she would seek investment in infrastructure and education, without a higher cost to most Americans.

“I will not raise taxes on the middle class,” she said. “I will give you tax relief.”

Regarding her first 100 days as president if elected, she said, “I will work with both parties to pass a comprehensive plan to create good-paying jobs.”

Speaking of Trump, Clinton said, “He has no credible plan for rebuilding our infrastructure, apart from his wall. He has no real strategy for creating jobs, just a string of empty promises. And maybe we shouldn’t expect better from someone who’s most famous words are ‘you’re fired. I do have a jobs program, and as president I’m going to make sure you hear ‘you’re hired.’”

Clinton made a rare defense of The Clinton Foundation, which had been the focus of some of Trump’s Wednesday criticism.

“[Trump is] attacking a philanthropic foundation that saves and improves lives around the world,” she said. “The Clinton Foundation helps poor people around the world get access to life-saving AIDS medicine. Donald Trump uses poor people around the world to produce his line of suits and ties.”

Halfway through Clinton’s speech, her campaign sent out an email titled, “15 biggest lies in Trump’s speech attacking Hillary Clinton.”
