Giana Bartolucci died from injuries suffered in a crash and complications from brain surgery.
A 14-year-old girl who was riding with her father, a pastor, when they were hit allegedly by a drunk illegal immigrant with a previous deportation record, has died from her injuries, various media outlets reported this week.
And her death comes just as House Speaker Paul Ryan made comments on the “O’Reilly Factor” on Fox News that he didn’t want to “clog” the U.S. jail system with illegals facing DUI charges, sparking more fiery debates about the best way to control the border.
But first, the victims: Giana Bartolucci just died from brain injuries suffered during a Christmas Eve ride with her father, Pastor Tony Bartolucci, through Clarkson, New York, streets to get a Christmas tree for the family. The accident occurred when Efrain Lopez-Contreras, 29, an illegal who had been twice-deported, crossed the center lane and hit the Bartolucci vehicle head-on, the Gateway Pundit reported.

Both father and daughter were seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Lopez-Contreras was found shortly after the accident, hiding in a ditch. Deputies arrested him and charged him with first-degree vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated.
The father, meanwhile, was treated for extensive injuries and released on February 2. The daughter, however, was transferred to a brain injury rehabilitation facility. Doctors operated to replace part of her skull, but she died just a few days ago from complications.
The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported the latest on Lopez-Contreras: “He was remanded to Monroe County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond. He is still being held there. He was indicted by a Monroe Conty grand jury in January on more charges, including six counts of aggravated vehicular assault, two counts of second-degree assault, six counts of first-degree vehicular assault. The Sheriff’s Office said he previously had been deported and he would be detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It’s unclear if he will face any new charges after Giana Bartolucci’s death.”

But other media outlets reported he had been previously arrested for drunk driving, and deported on at least two prior occasions.
“Efrain Lopez-Contreras should not have been driving the car that slammed into a pastor and his daughter who were on their way to get a tree Christmas Eve night in Clarkson,” opined the Batavia Daily News. “Not only was he drunk, but Lopez-Contreras … had twice been deported.”
The case, tragic on its own merits, could prove politically inconvenient to Ryan, who just said this on a June 15 broadcast with Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, as the Gateway Pundit found: “What we have to figure out is how do we write Kate’s Law so that we’re not clogging up our jails so much for, say DUI, but for the true violence criminals? … We need to get the details right so that we actually are going after the people that are doing this.”
Kate’s Law is the piece of legislation written after Kate Steinle was shot and killed in broad daylight as she walked on a San Francisco, California, pier with her father, that tightens laws against illegals. Her killer was allegedly an illegal immigrant named Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez who was deported on several prior occasions, but had taken to the city reportedly for its sanctuary shields.
