President Obama told global leaders at the opening of the COP21 conference in France that embracing climate-change policy is tantamount to fighting terror – that it’s a “rejection” of what terrorists seek to do to the world.
He first offered his sympathy for those killed and injured in the recent terrorist attacks.
“Fellow leaders, we have come to Paris to show our resolve. We offer our condolences to the people of France for the barbaric attacks on this beautiful city,” he said, Breitbart reported.
Obama then went on, speaking of climate change as if it were on equal footing with terrorism in terms of danger.
He said: “We stand united in solidarity, not only to deliver justice to the terrorist network responsible for those attacks but to protect our people and uphold the enduring values that keep us strong and keep us free. We salute the people of Pairs for insisting this crucial conference go on, an act of defiance that proves nothing will deter us from building the future we want for our children. What greater rejection of those who would tear down our world than marshaling our best efforts to save it.”
Obama has high hopes to realize his climate-change policies before the end of his administration, and has promised to focus his remaining months in office on achieving his legislative goals in this regard.
