Presidential candidate and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said the ruling from the Supreme Court on gay marriage is going to reverberate for some time – and in fact, lead to an uprising of sorts from the Christian camps.

“I don’t think a lot of pastors and Christian schools are going to have a choice,” he said, on on “This Week” on ABC, while answering a question from host George Stephanopoulos about the possibility for civil uprising. “They either are going to follow God, their conscience and what they truly believe is what the scripture teaches them, or they will follow civil law.”

He said Dr. Martin Luther King spoke of this same type of scenario while writing from a Birmingham jail about unjust laws.

“[He] reminded us, based on what St. Augustine said, that an unjust law is no law at all,” Huckabee said, the Hill reported. “And I do think that we’re going to see a lot of pastors whol will have to make this tough decision.”

Huckabee predicted many – including Christian business owners, university presidents, school administrators and county clerks in the positions of granting marriage licenses – would rebel against the ruling.

“If they have a conscientious objection,” he said, “I think they should be excused.”

And he wrapped with this blunt remark, Fox News reported: “We’ve always been a nation of law. We’re now a nation of men.”
