Joint Base Andrews in Maryland went on lockdown Thursday morning after reports of an active shooter brought out the emergency response.
“JBA is currently on lockdown due to a report of an active shooter,” read the Twitter account of Joint Base Andrews. “All personnel are directed to shelter in place. More info as it comes.”
Another tweet from the same account read: “The incident is ongoing at the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility. First responders are on-scene now. All personnel continue to shelter in place.”
Another tweet from JBA: “Due to the serious nature of this report, the base is reacting to ensure the safety of all personnel.”
And onee more: “First responders are currently on scene to secure the location.”
The incident comes just two days after Istanbul’s airport was hit by terror attackers who killed more than 40 and injured hundreds, and a week after another terrorist, Omar Mateen, pledged allegiance to an ISIS chief while shooting, killing and wounding dozens at an Orlando, Florida, gay hot spot.
Joint Base Andrews is located in Prince George’s County and is the home of Air Force One. It also houses many of the emergency units used for response to incidents in the Washington, D.C., area.
Just a month ago, the same base was put on lockdown after a woman entered the site and announced she was carrying a bomb. Explosives’ experts determined she had no bomb, however, and officers arrested her, News 4 Washington reported.
