Jesse Ventura, the former professional wrestler and Minnesota governor who recently won a $1.8 million suit alleging “American Sniper” Chris Kyle made false and defamatory claims about him in his book, said he definitely won’t run for president this year because he’s afraid of winning and losing his freedom.

His statement comes after months of speculation about a run as a third-party candidate.

In a memo on his website, he now clarified: “I would love to run against Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. I’d love to debate them, but, just in case I would win, I don’t want to do the job. And if you don’t want to do the job, you have no business running for president. That’s how I feel.”

Ventura shocked many in the media and political world when he won the governor’s slot in 1998.

In an interview with the StarTribune last year, he said he was actually considering a run for the presidency with the Libertarian Party. But on Sunday, the Libertarian delegates selected Gary Johnson to be their party’s nominee, and William Weld, a former Massachusetts governor, as his running mate.

Ventura made public with his own thoughts about seeking the high office just before the delegates’ vote because, he said, people have continued to press him about the position, the StarTribune reported.

“I do think this is the year of opportunity,” Ventura said. “This is the year where these two parties could lose because both of their candidates are polling so negatively. There’s still a chance the Democrats and Republicans will get beat.”

On his website, Ventura also expressed his view the country was in dire straits – or FUBAR, as he called it.

“I believe that, after watching this whole election, the country is FUBAR. … I’ll explain what that term means. It means: F—ed Up Beyond All Repair,” he said. “In other words, it’s gone. You can’t fix it.”
