The 4th of July is the perfect time to talk Obamacare, the feds say.
It’s the Fourth of July, federal style. Health and Human Services posted a lengthy memo on its website telling Americans how best to counter Obamacare naysayers over their holiday barbecues, and how best to push the reasons “Uncle Ted” ought to drop his objections and get on the regulatory board.
“You should be prepared when Aunt Janine says something like, ‘Obamacare hasn’t helped anyone!’ So here are a few points to remember during this long holiday weekend,” HHS.gov said.
The site then presents this scenario: “Uncle Ted claims Obamacare is a train wreck and has cost jobs.”
And the government’s desired response?
Tell Uncle Ted he’s off-base.
HHS.gov stated: “You say: Uncle Ted, you’ve gotten ahold of some old talking points. With greater access to affordable, quality health insurance, the Affordable Care Act is helping individuals and strengthening our economy!”
Americans are then directed to cite a long list of statistics of Obamacare’s purported benefts, and then say: “Now, would you like more corn?”
Another scenario: “Your brother has a great idea for a start-up, but he’s afraid to lose benefits when he leaves his current job.”
The advice is to tout how “the Affordable Care Act can help!”
HHS.gov presents one more situation – friendly sit-down over burgers.
“Before reaching for another burger,” HHS.gov said, “your uncle mentions he’s been meaning to get a blood pressure screening he’s been putting off.”
And then the advice: “You say: Thanks to the ACA, most health plans must now cover recommended preventive services like annual checkups, flu shots and screenings at no out-of-pocket cost.”
