Several sources are confirming Mullah Omar, the reclusive supreme leader of the Afghan Taliban, died from tuberculosis.

Unnamed Afghan sources said he died two years and four months ago, the Express Tribune reported. He was rarely seen in public. BBC reported the U.S. State Department had placed a $10 million bounty on his head years ago.

A former Afghan minister said Omar’s son had actually confirmed the body was that of his father, USA Today reported.

Taliban members have not commented about the reports, and Fox News said the United States has yet to confirm.

Omar is believed to have been residing in two cities in Pakistan since 2001, when American-led troops toppled the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Omar has been reported as dead in the past, but this is the first time top-ranking sources in Afghanistan’s government have confirmed the death, BBC reported.
