Planned Parenthood shut its website down after experiencing a second cyberattack in one week.
“We deeply regret that in order to more fully protect our websites from these exxtremist attacks, our full online content will be temporarily unavailable to people looking for good, accurate health information,” said Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood’s political division, in a statement reported by the Hill.
Officials with the nonprofit said late Wednesday evening their website had been hit by a “denial of service attack,” which is when the hackers use a tactic to overwhelm a site with so much traffic, it shutters.
In a tweet, the group said: “BREAKING PlannedParenthood.org health website is under attack by anti-abortion extremists.”
Just a couple days earlier, the Planned Parenthood website was hit by hackers and the nonprofit was forced to notify the Department of Justice to see if sensitive data had been exposed.
The “denial of service” attack only lasted a few minutes; Planned Parenthood’s website was operational after a few minutes. But out of caution, the nonprofit decided to keep it shut down. Laguens said Planned Parenthood is “takeing every measure possible to mitigate any criminal efforts to undermine our mission and services,” the Hill reported.
The attacks come as Planned Parenthood faces widespread scrutiny and outrage over the purported selling of baby parts, as extensively reported by WND, here and here.
