Russia’s Vladimir Putin
One of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s most vocal critics, Vladimir Kara-Murza Jr., suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness and his wife says he has all the signs of a poison victim.
He’s been hospitalized with “symptoms of poisoning,” said his wife, Yevgenia, Fox News reported.
Kara-Murza’s father told Russian media “the situation appears to be more serious than we thought,” and “his lungs are being artificially ventilated” and he’s “connected to 10 devices.”
His hospitalization comes just three months after one of his close political friends, Boris Nemtsov, was gunned down and killed nearby the Kremlin.
Kara-Murza, 33, works with Open Russia, a nongovernmental organization that just released a documentary that paints Putin in a poor light by drawing a connection between him and Ramzan Kadyrov, a Chechen who’s accused of torture and murder, Fox News said. Kara-Murza has worked out of Washington, D.C., for some time, and congressional members know him well.
“I am deeply concerned about the mysterious illness of Vladimir Kara-Murza, especially given the recent murder of Boris Nemtsov and the number of Putin’s opponents who have been poisoned,” said Rep. Chris Smith, from New Jersey.
A friend of the Kara-Murza family, Andrei Bystrov, said to the Telegraph: “Doctors have just confirmed that he was poisoned. As to what with, they can’t say yet. It could be anything.”
Kara-Murza’s family is trying to arrange transportation for him to get treatment in Europe.
