Bill and Hillary Clinton
Hillary Clinton, the likely Democratic Party pick for president, hinted in a campaign message her husband, former commander-in-chief Bill Clinton, would come out of the shadows and resume leadership in the White House – as her go-to for economic policy.
During a stop in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, Clinton remarked about “my husband, who I’m going to put in charge of revitalizing the economy,” tweeted one Washington Post national political reporter.
ABC News reported similarly.
“My husband, who I’m going to put in charge of revitalizing the economy, cause you know he knows how to do it,” Clinton said. “And especially in places like coal country and inner cities and other parts of our country that have really been left out.”
The news isn’t a complete surprise. Clinton has frequently referred to her husband’s economic policy prowess during campaign appearances.
As the Hill noted, she said during the October debate: “The economy does better when you have a Democrat in the White House.”
And just a couple weeks ago, she spoke of her husband’s economic contributions in even more glowing terms, explaining how she would persuade him to abandon retirement and take an active role in her White House strategy to bolster job growth.
“I’ve told my husband he’s got to come out of retirement and be in charge of this because, you know, he’s got more ideas a minute than anybody I know,” she said then, ABC News reported.
She went on at that same event, the Hill reported: “Got to put people back to work and make it happen. So we’re going to give it all we’ve got, absolute full-in 100 percent effort, because I worry we won’t recognize our country if we don’t do this.”
