Donald Trump on Thursday finally hit the magic number of 1,237 delegates, pretty much clinching his nomination to the Republican Party’s pick for president in 2016.

The only way to unseat Trump now would be to ram through a third-party candidate at the upcoming Republican National Convention, a scenario that’s been talked up by the GOP’s establishment wing that’s long opposed the billionaire businessman but that’s seen in reality as a doomsday deal that would cause widespread chaos and anger.

The Associated Press reported the new delegate count after a small number of delegates who weren’t bound to a candidate announced they would toss in with Trump.

For weeks, Trump has only needed fewer than 100 delegates to bring his total to the minimum 1,237 needed to win the party’s OK for the nomination.

His delegate backing actually stands at 1,238 now, AP reported.
