Black Lives Matter protesters take to the streets.
Bill O’Reilly, of Fox News fame, took on Black Lives Matter during his recent televised commentary, saying the movement has done little to advance the cause of the minority communities and is instead guilty of “killing Americans,” he said.
He opened his recent “O’Reilly Factor” broadcast with a Talking Points Commentary that promised to deliver “the truth about Black Lives Matter” by first pointing to the hike in violent crime in major cities across America, particularly in those with large black populations, and then to the “false narrative” being pushed by many in the minority communities.
“How Black Lives Matter is killing Americans, that is the subject of this evening’s Talking Points Memo,” he said. “First the statistics, and they are stunning.”
Since mid-2014, murders in America’s top 50 cities have risen by 17 percent, and “much higher in cities with large black populations,” he said, citing Chicago, where the numbers of shootings this year alone has risen 80 percent.
“Why? Because Chicago police have stopped stopping suspicious people,” O’Reilly said. “When you fail to police proactively, people commit more crimes.”
He then flashed on the screen statistics from the Manhattan Institute that show black males between the ages of 14 and 17 are actually responsible for committing homicides at “ten times the rate of white and Hispanic teens combined.”
And his response?
“Much of the violent crime in America is being committed by young black men,” O’Reilly said.
“Conclusion? There is a violent subculture in the African-American community. It should be exposed and confronted,” O’Reilly said. “Enter the Black Lives Matter crew, which roams around the country promoting a false narrative that American police officers are actively hunting down and killing blacks. Here’s the truth. Police shot whites at a rate of 50 percent in 2015. Police shot blacks at a rate of 25 percent.”
O’Reilly outright blamed Black Lives Matters for rising murder rates in America.
“So to sum up, thousands more Americans are being murdered because police are being more passive since the Ferguson situation and the Black Lives Matter protests,” he said, in reference to the Ferguson, Missouri, riots and protests that tore at the city after black teen Michael Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer, Darren Wilson, in August of 2014.
Wilson was found in two investigations, one of which hailed from the Department of Justice, to have acted in self-defense. But Ferguson-area residents, mostly black, claimed Brown, 18, was shot to death while fleeing the officer, hands raised, in a display of surrender. Despite forensics that pointed to the fallacy of that belief, the “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” mantra became a rally cry around the nation to protest police brutality, and it was eventually adopted by the Black Lives Matter movement as one of its signature statements.
O’Reilly also faulted “race hustlers” and “sympathetic members of the media” who back Black Lives Matter as fueling the tensions and violence.
“A final indignity? Members of the group,” he said, “have even been invited to the White House.”
He then told a panelist: “The unintended consequence of the Black Lives Matter movement is a rise in murder.”
