Donald Trump, presumptive Republican nominee for president, told a Rolling Thunder motorcycle crowd in Washington, D.C., that veterans aren’t treated very well by the present administration – that truthfully, illegal immigrants are oftentimes treated with more regard.
“We have to take care of our vets, and in many cases,” he said, the Hill reported, “illegal immigrants are taken better care of by this country than our vets, and that’s not going to happen [if I’m president].”
The annual Rolling Thunder rally draws thousands to the National Mall, many of whom are veterans or have military members in their families.
The rally Trump spoke at was assembled before the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
There, he also vowed to “knock the hell” out of ISIS, and to bolster America’s military and fighting forces.
“We’re going to make it bigger and bigger and better and stronger than ever before,” Trump said, the Hill reported. “We have no choice. We have to do it.”
Trump, who’s frequently spoken of helping veteran causes with his money, also said at the Rolling Thunder rally that he’s poised this week to release the names of those military-tied groups he’s aided, as well as the amounts he’s donated to them, from a $6 million fundraiser he held in January.
“All of the groups that have gotten the money will be announced on Tuesday and it’s going to be a great day,” he said.
