Authorities in Dallas are being unusually secretive about the one sniper who was killed by a police bomb and the three others arrested to end a sniper ambush that left five Dallas officers dead and another seven injured.
Authorities held a news conference on Friday, only hours after the downtown Dallas attack, but revealed nothing about the suspects – either the one dead one who was blown up by a police bomb detonated after being delivered to the sniper by robot – or the three in custody.
But police chief David Brown did reveal that before the one suspect died, he said something about his motive.
“He was upset about black lives matter,” Brown said. “He said he was upset about recent police shootings … upset at white people. He stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.”
Brown and the city’s major said they were keeping a lid on information about the suspects that might in another case ordinarily be released – in order to facilitate their investigation.
“He said he was not affiliate with any groups, and he stated he did this alone,” Brown said.
Brown’s goal is that every individual involved will be brought to justice, he said, and he praised the bravery of Dallas officers when gunshots erupted.
“[You see] video footage of them running toward gunfire from an elevated position with no chance to protect themselves, and to put themselves in harm’s way to make sure citizens can get to a place of security,” he said.
However, the Mirror said, “a self-proclaimed black power group appears to have claimed responsibility for the assassinations of five police officers at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas.”
The report said, “The Black Power Political Organization wrote on its Facebook account that it was behind the attack and that ‘more assassinations are coming.’”
The statement said, “#BlackPower! #BlackKnights! Sniper Assassins Take Down Five Police Officers! And More Will Be Assassinated In The Coming Days! Do You Like The Work Of Our Assassins? Get Your Own Sniper Rifle And Join Our Thousands Of Sniper Assassins Worldwide In The Fight Against Oppression!”
But the message later was taken down.
