Western societies being told ‘get used to terrorism’

It’s shaping up to be a long hot summer for the West.

Terrorist attacks in Europe have become an almost daily occurrence. Attacks on police officers within the United States have increased dramatically within the last year. And the Republican candidate for president has staked his campaign on a promise of “restoring law and order.”

Social peace in the Occident hangs by a thread.

Europe already seems like it is on the brink, with Patrick Calvar, head of the General Directorate for Internal Security in France, predicting the country is on the verge of a civil war.

Already reeling from the terrorist attack on the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and the and the attacks in the Bataclan theater in 2015, the summer of 2016 has seen a relentlessly spike in activity in Western Europe by terrorists claiming allegiance to the Islamic State.

On the list:

Adding to the tension are admissions by German and French politicians and journalists they are attempting to conceal the truth of these attacks for fear of angering the native population.

A female German politician in the Left party admitted earlier this month she lied to the police when she was attacked by three migrant men. She initially told the police her attackers spoke German because she did not want to stoke “more hatred against migrants in Germany.” She also wrote an open letter on Facebook accusing “racists” of being the real problem.

A leaked report shows the sex attacks on German women on New Year’s Eve by Muslim migrants was far worse than initially reported, with around 1,200 women assaulted.

In response, German leader Angela Merkel has refused any calls to change Germany’s refugee policies.

Furthermore, some organs in the French media are now refusing to identify the names and backgrounds of terrorists, which will make it harder for the public to determine who is actually carrying out the attacks.

According to Willy Wimmer, former state secretary for Merkel’s German Christian Democratic Union Party, Merkel has never explained why she made the decision to open Germany’s borders.

Wimmer said the reaction of an increasing number of people is, “What does she have in mind to destroy our country?”

He suggested Merkel’s decision could ultimately lead to the destruction of the European institutions set up after World War II. He also predicted a “real tragedy” in France or Germany sooner or later.

Philip Haney, a former Department of Homeland Security analyst and the author of “See Something, Say Nothing,” said European governments seem to be telling their citizens to simply get used to terrorism rather than doing anything to stop it.

“It appears that French citizens are being forced by terrorists to move away from the European equivalent of ‘See Something, Say Something’ and are instead being advised to integrate defensive maneuvers into their daily life, much like British citizens had to do during the Blitz in World War II,” he told WND. “They are being told to not only get used to terrorism, but also that their leaders will never give up on open borders no matter how bad terrorism or the migrant crisis gets.”

G.M. Davis, who wrote “House of War: Islam’s Jihad Against the World,” argues Europe faces an existential choice.

“Terrorist violence has proven to be cyclical, and right now we are in a clear upswing,” said Davis. “In light of the utter unwillingness of European governments to recognize the Islamic roots of the terrorism in their own backyards, terrorism has become part of the social landscape much as it did in other parts of the world for different reasons – drug cartel violence in Central and South America, for example.”

Davis warned even the most extreme scenario is a real possibility if European governments do not react effectively against the problem they invited within their own borders.

“The question going ahead will be whether the European governments will be able to overcome their defeatism and implement new and effective policies, or whether it will require popular, provisional groups outside the normal governmental channels to take matters into their own hands,” he said. “In that case, some form of civil war would not be far behind.”

Meanwhile, police officers in the United States are operating under a state of siege as the White House backed Black Lives Matter movement continues to question the legitimacy of law enforcement. The Democratic Party couldn’t even manage a moment of silence for slain police officers without cries of protest from Black Lives Matter.

Another officer was shot to death in San Diego, California, Thursday night, only the latest in what has been a sharp increase in police killings in 2016.

According to a report from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund law enforcement fatalities had increased by 78 percent in the first half of 2016, even before the killing in San Diego. Not including the most recent killing in San Diego, 32 officers have been killed in firearms related deaths this year, compared to only 18 deaths during the same period last year.

Even worse, “ambush killings of unsuspecting law enforcement officers” is identified as the leading circumstance of these killings, with 14 such cases in the first half of 2016 compared to only three in the same period in 2015.

The nation was shocked when a sniper motivated by “recent police shootings” killed five police officers in Dallas in early July.

This ambush was followed up by another ambush in Baton Rouge, Louisiana a few days later which left three officers dead. Other ambushes against police officers took place in Tennessee, Georgia, and Missouri earlier this month.

Jeff Roorda, a retired police officer, four-term Missouri state representative, and the executive director and business manager of the St. Louis Police Officers Association, argues police around the country are on edge.

“Irresponsible political prosecutions and the anti-police violence that accompanies them makes cops rightfully fearful for their safety, their jobs and their freedom,” the author of the upcoming book “The War on Police” told WND.

In many ways, Donald Trump has staked his campaign on the premise Americans are fed up with increasing lawlessness and fearful of terrorism.

In response, many pundits are arguing Hillary Clinton has seized the traditional Republican theme of “optimism” about America best displayed by Ronald Reagan. The problem for the candidate Trump calls “Crooked Hillary” is that most Americans don’t believe it is really “Morning in America.”

Polls over the last few years find Americans overwhelmingly believe the country is moving in the wrong direction. According to a poll released earlier this year by Rasmussen, only 24 percent of likely U.S. voters think the country is headed in the right direction.

Trump clearly believes a message of “law and order” and strength abroad is what the country wants to hear. He slammed the Democrats for not focusing on the threat of the Islamic State during their convention. And recent polls suggest a majority of Americans trust Donald Trump rather than Hillary Clinton to handle terrorism.

However, ultimately, the election may come down to events. Hillary Clinton leads in most battleground states, Trump is still competitive or even leading in most national polls. More importantly, Hillary Clinton is running as the candidate of the status quo. A wave of terrorist attacks or more violence against police could convince more Americans change is needed. And with social order in both Europe and America at the breaking point, the heat that already has appeared this summer may have been just the beginning.
