Obama brings up ‘birth certificates’ while pushing Hillary

It appears the Obama family cannot get birth certificates out of their minds.

On Night No. 3 of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, during an address in which he urged Americans to elect Hillary Clinton, President Obama again brought up the issue of “birth certificates,” a revival of the eligibility issue that has plagued his presidency since before his own election in 2008.

“You know, there’s been a lot of talk in this campaign about what America’s lost – people who tell us that our way of life is being undermined by pernicious changes and dark forces beyond our control,” Obama said. “They tell voters there’s a ‘real America’ out there that must be restored. This isn’t an idea that started with Donald Trump. It’s been peddled by politicians for a long time – probably from the start of our Republic.

“And it’s got me thinking about the story I told you 12 years ago tonight, about my Kansas grandparents and the things they taught me when I was growing up. They came from the heartland; their ancestors began settling there about 200 years ago. I don’t know if they had their birth certificates, but they were there.”

The mention of “birth certificates,” which prompted laughter and cheers from the crowd, was a deviation from the president’s prepared remarks, and comes just two nights after his wife, first lady Michelle Obama, brought up the issue of her husband’s citizenship and faith during her speech to the DNC.

On Monday night, Mrs. Obama said one of her jobs in the White House was to teach her daughters “to ignore those who question their father’s citizenship or faith.”

She was referencing the challenges to her husband’s constitutional qualification for office as a “natural born citizen.”

Dozens of lawsuits were filed over that issue before and after Obama’s election in 2008, and the White House ultimately released a document he said was his Hawaiian birth certificate.

The only law-enforcement investigation of the issue, conducted by Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, concluded the document is likely a forgery.

During his endorsement of Mrs. Clinton Wednesday night, the president also brought up some of his achievements including health care and same-sex marriage, and urged citizens to vote for Democrats up and down the ticket in November.

“I promise you, when we keep at it, when we change enough minds, when we deliver enough votes, then progress does happen,” Obama said. “Just ask the 20 million more people who have health care today. Just ask the Marine who proudly serves his country without hiding the husband he loves. Democracy works, but we gotta want it – not just during an election year, but all the days in between.

“So if you agree that there’s too much inequality in our economy, and too much money in our politics, we all need to be as vocal and as organized and as persistent as Bernie Sanders’ supporters have been. We all need to get out and vote for Democrats up and down the ticket, and then hold them accountable until they get the job done.”

Earlier in the evening, Vice President Joe Biden launched a blistering attack on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, saying the businessman has “no clue.”

“This guy doesn’t have a clue about the middle class. Not a clue,” Biden said. “When the middle class does well, the rich fare very well and the poor have hope.

“He has no clue about what makes America great. Actually he has no clue, period.” Biden stated.

That prompted the partisan crowd to begin chanting, “Not a clue!”

Biden noted of Trump, “He’s trying to tell us he cares about the middle class. Give me a break! That’s a bunch of malarkey!”

“His cynicism and undoubtedly his lack of empathy and compassion can be summed up in that phrase he is most proud of making famous: ‘You’re fired!’”

“How can there be pleasure in saying, ‘You’re fired!?’ asked Biden.

Biden said Trump is “a man who embraces the tactics of our enemies,” including torture and religious intolerance.

“We cannot elect a man who exploits our fears of ISIS and other terrorists,” he said.

“Donald Trump with all his rhetoric would literally make us less safe. We simply cannot let that happen as Americans.”

Biden was followed by U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, who said, “I humbly accept my party’s nomination for vice president of the United States.”

“If any of you are looking for the party of Lincoln, we’ve got a home for you right here in the Democratic Party.”

Kaine tapped into some biblical rhetoric when he said God has created a “wonderful tapestry” of citizens in America.

“We’re all neighbors and we must love our neighbors as ourselves,” Kaine said, adding that he and Hillary Clinton share a belief to “do all the good you can and serve one another.”

Kaine mocked Trump for two words he often uses in speeches, feigning a Trump voice saying, “Believe me.”

“Here’s the question. Do ya really believe him?”

The biggest cheers for Kaine were prompted when he questioned the Trump’s forthrightness about his taxes.

“Does anyone here believe that Donald Trump’s been paying his fair share of taxes? Do you believe he ought to release those tax returns like every other presidential candidate in modern history? Of course he should. Donald, what are you hiding?”

Also Wednesday evening, former CIA Director Leon Panetta urged the need to defeat the Islamic terrorists known as ISIS, which prompted chants from the crowd of, “No more war!”

“They don’t know much about ISIS and they don’t want to hear about any more war,”said Martha MacCallum of Fox News.

Her colleague, Chris Wallace added, “If they made those statements to ISIS, they [the terrorists] would happily slit their throats.”
