While the Democratic National Convention won the ratings battle with the Republican National Convention the first two days, Day 3 on Wednesday was a downer for the DNC despite headliners President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, vice-presidential nominee Sen. Tim Kaine and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

According to early figures Thursday, convention-to-convention on Day 3, the combined rating of the DNC was down 18 percent in the key 25-54 age group from the drama of Day 3 in Cleveland when Sen. Ted Cruz refused to endorse Trump and running mate Mike Pence spoke, reported Deadline Hollywood.

The Hollywood Reporter said ratings for the first two nights of the DNC easily outpaced the comparable showings from Republicans the week before.

Individually, CNN led convention coverage with an average 6.2 million viewers. MSNBC followed with 4.9 million, NBC News 4.2 million, ABC News 3.6 million, CBS News 2.9 million and Fox News Channel 2.4 million.

On Tuesday night, the three cable news channels and the three major broadcast networks drew a combined average audience of 24.7 million from 10-11:15 p.m. During that time, former President Bill Clinton took nearly 50 minutes to make a case for his wife, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

The audience for the second night of the DNC, 25.12 million across the six major networks, was nearly 5 million more than Night 2 of the RNC.

CNN also led the broadcast and cable competition in the 25-54 demographic, the Los Angeles Times reported.
