‘Who do we represent?’ … Good question, senator

Hardworking Americans are going to get hosed by the $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill, which allows the Obama administration to allow foreigners into the country with few limitations and plenty of breaks paid for by U.S. taxpayers.

That’s why Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) recently demanded his colleagues answer a simple question: “Who do we represent?”

You see, the spending bill that Congress just passed to wrap up the legislative year includes a bevy of gifts to the presidential administration that has made no secret about its desire to bring as many immigrants into the nation as possible.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) described the bill as a major accomplishment for members of both parties.

But Sessions has spent the past few weeks publicizing things about the agreement that should make any conservative cringe, like the fact that it extends tax credits to people in the United States illegally who may pay no taxes or how it totally betrays a huge majority of Americans who believe that it’s time to tighten immigration restrictions.

As Sessions noted to his colleagues, taxpayers and members of Congress have both witnessed massive burdens on the immigration system and emerging immigration-related terror threats in recent years.

“At a time of record immigration — with a full 83 percent of the electorate wanting immigration frozen or reduced — the GOP-led Congress is about to deliver Obama a fourfold increase to one of the most controversial foreign worker programs. The result? Higher unemployment and lower wages for Americans,” he said.

Sessions also pointed out, “The omnibus approves — without conditions — the president’s request for increased refugee admissions, allowing him to bring in as many refugees as he wants, from anywhere he wants, and then allow them to access unlimited amounts of welfare and entitlements at taxpayer expense. This will ensure that at least 170,000 green card, refugee and asylum approvals are issued to migrants from Muslim countries over just the next 12 months.”

The Republican leadership, he said, isn’t even trying to hide the fact that it’s repaying GOP voters “with betrayal.”

“There is a reason that GOP voters are in open rebellion,” he said. “They have come to believe that their party’s elites are not only uninterested in defending their interests but — as with this legislation, and fast-tracking the president’s international trade pact — openly hostile to them. This legislation represents a further disenfranchisement of the American voter.”

If anything is ever going to change, Sessions is basically spelling out what will have to happen: American conservatives are going to have dump the Republican Party or nominate a presidential candidate who’s despised by its establishment.

Perhaps it’s a good time to start making some noise about Trump/Paul or Paul/Trump 2016?
