President Obama just handed his critics an easy shot by making an appearance with Jerry Seinfeld on the webcast “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” and discussing, among other topics, his personal preference in undergarments.
In the full 19-minute video clip, Seinfeld queried Obama on his morning routine, which included shaving first and then exercising, before turning attention to the bustle of the White House and how far the president could walk in his underwear before running into a crowd.
Seinfeld then asked Obama: “If I slid open your underwear drawer, one brand, or a number of brands?”
And Obama’s response?
“You gotta go with one brand,” he said, adding that he also prefers sticking with just one color of underwear.
A shorter 40-second clip posted on Twitter shows Seinfeld asking Obama: “If I slid open your underwear drawer, one brand, one color?” The video then cuts immediately to the two standing and walking from the kitchen table, while Seinfeld complains his “shoes are squeaking.”
The back-and-forth came on the heels of another Hollywood comedian, David Spade, offering up criticisms of Obama for taking to television too much and degrading the office of the presidency.
As WND reported, Spade pointed to Obama’s recent appearance on the reality “Running Wild With Bear Grylls” show and said: “I criticized Obama because I thought, you know, a president should have a little more dignity than – I mean, I realize that Woodrow Wilson went on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ once, but what president’s doing reality shows? It just sounds weird to me, you know. It’s just too much.”
And as one Fox & Friends host asked, while discussing the Seinfeld-Obama joint skit: “Do we really want our president doing this” while terrorism and other crucial matters beckon?
Seinfeld’s production is in its seventh season. This season’s premier shows Seinfeld creeping through bushes outside the Oval Office and knocking on windows for Obama.
He then asks: “You ready?”
And Obama, with an annoyed tone, answers: “I got some stuff to do.”
Seinfeld is then seen flopping on the Oval Office couch, slouching, and munching on apples as he asks, “Are these washed?”
At another point in the video, the two admire Seinfeld’s 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe and take it for a drive. They circle the White House grounds, with Obama driving with one hand and ignoring what he refers to as that “whole 10 and 2 thing.”
Obama then points to his own presidential limousine and quips: “[I can] call a nuclear submarine right from here. You don’t have that, do you? It’s a cool feature. Plus it has seat warmers,” the Hollywood Reporter said.
At other moments in the video, Obama joked about Teddy Roosevelt as his favorite president because he seemed “the guy who would be the most fun to hang out with [who] just does crazy stuff,” and about taking gin in the coffee he’s handed from an aide.
“Just a ‘lil, ‘lil gin I take mid-day,” Obama said, while accepting the coffee cup from an aide.
“That gives you a lil zip,” Seinfeld said.
