Liberals love to claim that society, not parents, is responsible for teaching children how to grow into well-rounded and responsible adults. And some U.K. residents are currently getting a little taste of what happens when people give in to that notion.
U.K. Education Secretary Nicky Morgan is demanding a review of the home-schooling practices of thousands of parents under her government’s control. That’s because Morgan and other U.K. bureaucrats fear that children who forgo the brainwashing and indoctrination offered in government schools by home schooling run the risk of becoming “radicalized” by their parents.
There are currently between 20,000 and 50,000 children being home schooled in the U.K.
One top U.K. education official told The Independent: “There has always been the freedom in this country for people to educate their children at home. Many people do it very well. But we need to know where the children are and to be certain that they are safe. For every parent doing a brilliant job, there may be someone filling their child’s mind with poison. We just don’t know. We don’t have reliable figures.”
U.K. education officials are using the thousands of Islamic refugees the governments have allowed to flood the European Union as the primary excuse for setting in place a plan to erode parents’ home-schooling rights.
Lucy Powell, the shadow education secretary for the U.K. Labour Party, told The Independent that the government’s interest is in ensuring children are “not taught a narrow curriculum of hate and bigotry.”
“Yet, just last week it was revealed that the government had let children remain in illegal, unregistered schools for weeks, where they were exposed to narrow curriculums, misogynist, homophobic and anti-Semitic material. This is completely unacceptable,” she said.
Of course, the move is similar to President Barack Obama’s attempts to use Islamic terror to push gun control in the U.S.
U.K. officials’ true goal is to make sure that public education is reaching as many people under their control as possible so that it can carry out its propaganda-driven purpose.
As polemicist Noam Chomsky notes in his 1995 work “Class Warfare”:
Mass education was designed to turn independent farmers into docile, passive tools of production. That was its primary purpose. And don’t think people didn’t know it. They knew it and they fought against it. There was a lot of resistance to mass education for exactly that reason. It was also understood by the elites. Emerson once said something about how we’re educating them to keep them from our throats. If you don’t educate them, what we call “education,” they’re going to take control – “they” being what Alexander Hamilton called the “great beast,” namely the people. The anti-democratic thrust of opinion in what are called democratic societies is really ferocious. And for good reason. Because the freer the society gets, the more dangerous the great beast becomes and the more you have to be careful to cage it somehow.
And you can bet that a similar attack on home schooling is coming in the U.S.
Wayne Allyn Root, who has written about his family’s home-schooling success for Personal Liberty®, believes government dislikes home schooling because it exposes the state’s “too big to succeed” education model.
“Home schooling works. Period. Public education is a failure. Period. So why is the one that works under attack? Why indeed. Funny how that works. Follow the money. Who is being threatened by the fantastic success of home schooling?” Root asked. “As soon as you figure that out, you’ll know who the bad people are. In America, it’s teachers unions. I’m not sure who the bad guys are in U.K., but I assume it’s government.”
