A couple of New York lawmakers say a park that bears the name of Donald Trump ought to be renamed because the billionaire businessman who’s leading the Republican presidential pack has made too many discriminatory statements and pressed for too many racist proposals.
Specifically, state Sen. Daniel Squadron and state Assemblyman Charles Lavine say Trump’s remarks about banning Muslims at the border have struck them as particularly discriminatory, and they’re pushing for a law to change the name of Donald J. Trump State Park, Breitbart reported.
Trump actually donated the land to the state in 2006 after his plans for a golf course development fell to the wayside. The park’s been closed since 2010, however.
Squadron and Lavine say Trump’s not worthy of having a state park that bears his name. They also seek to change the Trump name on signs at park sites in Westchester and Putnam counties, Breitbart reported.
A spokesman for Trump, meanwhile, said the billionaire was proud to call New York home and that state lawmakers simply don’t have the authority to take his name off the park.
