“Here’s the smell of the blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. Oh, oh, oh!” — Lady Macbeth in William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”
Hillary Clinton, the Democratic front-runner for the 2016 presidential race, has bet on only one winning horse in her life: her husband, former President Bill Clinton. With the presidential election 15 months away, she has a barn full of Clydesdales pulling against American prosperity and homeland security.
Hillary Clinton’s biggest wager is on Saudi Arabia, which she hopes is a camel stubbornly walking into the 21st century. But over the past few years, the extremist mullahs have been driving that kingdom backward toward the 14th century and jihadist wars.
Clinton understands that it is very possible Saudi Arabia will implode in the next five years. But for now, there is plenty of political support for Clinton from Saudi Arabia and bushels of cash.
The Clinton Foundation came under scrutiny earlier this year when The Wall Street Journal published an article questioning the Foundation’s decision to lift its self-imposed ban on foreign contributions in 2014. According to The WSJ, the Clintons have collected between $10 million and $25 million from Saudi Arabia for their foundation.
The Clinton Foundation website claims said funds are used: “… to improve global health, strengthen economies, promote health and wellness, and protect the environment by fostering partnerships among governments, businesses, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and private citizens to turn good intentions into measurable results.”
For the Saudis, achieving measurable results means recycling their petro-dollars into U.S. weapons purchases. Saudi Arabia is already the No. 1 buyer of U.S. weapons. Of course Clinton, like Barack Obama, easily ignores that Saudi Arabia uses its oil wealth — protected by American weapons and U.S. technical experts — to expand its petroleum dominance over the rest of the world. And while Washington remains buzzing over a potential deal with the second largest holder of conventional crude, Iran, no one in government dares say a disparaging word regarding Saudi Arabia, America’s strategic oil ally since the end of World War II — least of all Obama, who came out Monday with a major policy speech on cleaning carbon from the air to stop the greatest threat to mankind.
The Guardian reported:
White House adviser Brian Deese said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules represented the “biggest step that any single president has made to curb the carbon pollution that is fueling climate change”.
Is all that exploration, development, pumping and transportation of Saudi oil — burned as stinking, filthy oil the world over — also part of the carbon problem?
It is. That is, unless the molecular makeup of Saudi crude is different from the stinking, filthy oil from Alaska or Canada. I’ve been out of university a long time; but burned oil creates carbon, even Saudi oil.
Of course, this cannot be spoken of. Saudi Arabia is a major purchaser of U.S. Treasury debt. It’s also America’s No. 1 arms buyer. And it just happens to be the biggest financier of global jihadism. So while Saudis have weekly beheadings and zero prospects of embracing anything close to democratic values and treat women like pet monkeys, at least they don’t chant, as Iranians do, “Death to America.”
Iran bad, Saudi Arabia good
And never anyone mind that Saudi Arabians provided the brains, bucks and balls to kill more than 5,000 innocent Americans whose only sin — besides being infidels — was going to work that September day back in 2001.
My Middle East contact, who has worked in both Iran and Saudi Arabia, contends that Iran has greater democratic leanings and more markings of a Western society than Saudi Arabia will ever have under Wahhabism, whose adherents see all nonbelievers as infidels.
On Monday, the AhlulBayt News Agency, which reports on the Middle East, ran this headline: “Religious Genocide — How Saudi Arabia in Yemen is seeking to destroy a chapter of Islam’s history.” Catherine Shakdam reported:
While Saudi Arabia has been active in portraying its war in Yemen as one of liberation — a concerted effort to bring democracy and political self-determination to this poorest nation of the Arabian Peninsula — months of brutalities, indiscriminate bombings, war crimes and other aggravated human rights abuses are telling another story.
These atrocities will be brought in full force upon Saudi Arabia itself by hundreds of millions of angry Arabs who encircle the nation: the poor, aggrieved and bitter Arabs who did not catch a windfall from the Great Satan (America) but have suffered at the hands of the House of Saud, which has been bought and paid for by American presidential contenders like Clinton.
Even though the Saudis abuse women and despite Clinton’s demands for global women’s rights, her mindset compels her not to turn her back on Saudi money and instead to propagate her populist conviction toward building an America utopia built on solar energy.
On July 26, Clinton promised she will push for solar energy. Her campaign said her goals would lead to a 700 percent increase in the nation’s installed solar capacity from current levels, and eventually could generate at least one-third of all electricity from renewable sources.
With Obama-esque ego Clinton said: “We’re on the cusp of a new era. We can have more choice in the energy we consume and produce. We can create a more open, efficient and resilient grid that connects us, empowers us, improves our health and benefits us all.”
And at what bloody cost will your clean-environment dream and your support of an already imploding Saudi Arabia come, Mrs. Clinton? Will you find that all that power was not worth it, that all the perfumes of Arabia couldn’t make your little greedy hand smell better?
Yours in good times and bad,
–John Myers
