Nation’s largest Border union says agents should vote for Trump

The largest union representing the nation’s Border Patrol agents says President Barack Obama’s weak immigration policies have given criminal Mexican cartels “the freest border reign ever”— and that’s why the union is endorsing Donald Trump for president.

The National Border Patrol Council, which holds sway over some 16,000 U.S. Border Patrol agents, announced its support for Trump in a statement on its website this week despite “a longstanding practice of not endorsing presidential candidates in the primaries.”

The union has very publically clashed with the Obama administration in recent years as the president’s immigration policies have made it increasingly difficult for agents to do their jobs. Representatives say the nation can’t withstand similar leadership from the next administration.

From the statement: “America has already tried a young, articulate freshman senator who never created a job as an attorney and under whose watch criminal cartels have been given the freest border reign ever known.

“Unlike his opponents, Donald Trump is not a career politician, he is an outsider who has created thousands of jobs, pledged to bring about aggressive pro-American change, and who is completely independent of special interests. We don’t need a person who has the perfect Washington-approved tone, and certainly NOT another establishment politician in the W.H. Indeed, the fact that people are more upset about Mr. Trump’s tone than about the destruction wrought by open borders tells us everything we need to know about the corruption in Washington.”

The union’s leaders say they expect Trump will keep promises about sealing up the nation’s southern border because the GOP hopeful is the only candidate in the race “who doesn’t fear the media, who doesn’t embrace political correctness, who doesn’t need the money, who is familiar with success, who won’t bow to foreign dictators, who is pro-military and values law enforcement, and who is angry for America and NOT subservient to the interests of other nations.”

Trump’s campaign reached out to the NBPC earlier this month, promising that a Trump administration would provide a direct line of communication for border agents to reach the president.

Stephen Miller, senior policy advisor to Trump’s campaign, told Breitbart: “We are going to work closely, directly, and intimately with the NBPC to develop a border policy for this nation. We are going to make sure they have the resources they need to get this job done. They are going to be sitting with us to craft a policy that works for America and for them.”

That message seems to have resonated with NBPC officials, who say they believe Trump will “embrace the ideas of rank-and-file Border Patrol agents rather than listening to the management yes-men who say whatever they are programmed to say.”

And that would certainly be a huge improvement from the relationship rank-and-file Border Patrol agents has with the current president. Earlier this year, an Obama administration official said Border agents should simply quit if they don’t like the president’s policies.
