Sanders, Kasich, Cruz win first New Hampshire votes

Bernie Sanders

Bernie Sanders

The first votes in New Hampshire, tallied early Tuesday morning, show self-declared socialist Bernie Sanders taking all four in the tiny town of Dixville and Ohio’s John Kasich winning 3-2 with Republicans over Donald Trump.

State law allows communities with fewer than 100 voters to open polls at midnight and then shut down as soon as all the registered voters have cast their ballots. Dixville, home to the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel, where media covering the New Hampshire primary oftentimes stay, is one such community.

And there, polls opened at midnight.

Four of the voters were registered Democrats and all selected Sanders over Hillary Clinton. Of the five registered Republicans, three went for Kasich and two for Trump.

Another early voting community, Millsfield, gave the thumbs-up to Sen. Ted Cruz, with nine votes compared to Trump’s three, CNN reported.

New Hampshire’s primary is considered a contest of Independents, unlike in Iowa where the big draw was to win the votes of evangelicals.
