Black Lives Matter activists hunted down Hillary Clinton at a campaign fundraiser in South Carolina and demanded an apology for the incarceration rate of black Americans.
Wednesday’s confrontation at a private event in Charleston was the latest in a string of run-ins the Democrat front-runner has had with the group. A YouTube video uploaded Wednesday night revealed a tense exchange between activist Ashley Williams and Clinton.
“We want you to apologize for mass incarceration,” activist Williams said. “I’m not a ‘super-predator,’ Hillary Clinton!”
“Okay, fine. We’ll talk about it,” said Clinton.
“Will you apologize to black people for mass incarceration?” asked Williams.
“Well, can I talk? Then maybe you can listen to what I say,” Clinton said before Williams was escorted out of the building.
The latest Black Lives Matter ambush comes just over two weeks since the far-left Nation published a scathing rebuke of the Clintons’ record with the black community titled, “Why Hillary Clinton Doesn’t Deserve the Black Vote: From the crime bill to welfare reform, policies Bill Clinton enacted – and Hillary Clinton supported – decimated black America.”
“[Hillary Clinton’s] support for the 1994 crime bill, for example … used racially coded rhetoric to cast black children as animals,” Author Michelle Alexander wrote Feb. 10. “‘They are not just gangs of kids anymore,’ she said. They are often the kinds of kids that are called ‘super-predators.’ No conscience, no empathy. We can talk about why they ended up that way, but first we have to bring them to heel.”
Black Lives Matter disrupted one of Clinton’s speeches in Atlanta, Georgia, last October. It unsuccessfully tried to crash an event on Aug. 11, 2015, in Keene, New Hampshire. Clinton decided to speak privately with the group as a show of good faith, only to have video of the meeting leak days later.
“HRC lobbied to expand drug war & mass incarceration in ways that still impact black & brown ppl today,” Black Lives Matter Boston tweeted Aug. 17, 2015. “As of today, the platform on her website still calls for ‘restoring balance’ to the CJ system.”
Clinton held yet another meeting with the group Oct. 10, 2015, at the National Council of Negro Women in Washington D.C.
“We had a tough conversation about de-centering the police as the key mechanism to ensuring safety in communities. And we also had a spirited conversation about alternatives to policing,” race activist Deray McKesson told Politico after the meeting.
Outreach between the former secretary of state may be at an impasse because Black Lives Matter does not even view Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a self-described socialist, as liberal enough for its tastes.

Fox News national correspondent John Roberts asked Marissa Jenae Johnson, the group’s co-founder, on Tuesday why it interrupted a Sanders event in Seattle last year.
“He’s the far-left candidate,” said Roberts.
“Left for white folks. He’s left for the needs and concerns of mainstream white America,” said Johnson.
The Clinton campaign did not responded to CNN’s request for comment on Wednesday night’s confrontation.
