The State Department released about 3,000 pages of emails of former Secretary Hillary Clinton’s messages from 2009, between the months of March and December.
The release comes as the Democratic presidential hopeful suffers from poor poll showings, due in large part to her perceived trustworthiness issues.
The emails were posted online, and State Department officials say more will probably follow, despite the fact they could prove a significant ding to the candidate’s White House campaign. In fact, the department plans to release a total of 55,000 pages of Clinton’s emails by Jan. 29, 2016, a few days before Iowa voters head to primary polls.
“There’s been nothing but nearly nonstop work on this,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said, the Associated Press reported. “You have to understand the enormity of the task here. It is a lot of stuff to go through.”
