The State Department announced its proposed release dates for former Secretary Hillary Clinton’s emails – every 60 days, beginning June 30.
“The Department proposes that it make its next production of non-exempt portions of the emails by posting them on the website on June 30, 2015, and that it make rolling productions in the same way every 60 days thereafter,” Justice Department attorneys said in a court document, Politico reported. “The Department will strive to produce as many documents as possible on each production date, and will file a status report one week after each production to inform the court of the number of pages posted.”
The court filing comes just a few days after U.S. District Judge Rudoph Contreras turned down the State Department’s proposal to shield the 52,000 pages of emails from public view until January 2016. The judge instead ordered the State Department to release the emails on a “rolling” schedule and to make public that proposed schedule for approval.
The State Department’s proposed 60-day timeline for release did not specify how many pages per batch.
“The Department is keenly aware of the intesne public interest in the documents and wants to get releasable materials out as soon as possible,” the Justice Department lawyers wrote, Politico said. “The department will continue to explore ways to devote more resources to this effort, consistent with its other obligations, to complete the review even earlier.”
