This poll means your semi-auto rifle may be worth its weight in gold in Hillary’s America

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has pretty much promised that her White House would do everything it can to get firearms, especially so-called assault weapons, out of American hands. And more people than ever think that’s a terrible idea.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has pretty much promised that her White House would do everything it can to get firearms, especially so-called assault weapons, out of American hands. And more people than ever think that’s a terrible idea.

That’s according to a Gallup poll reporting that a record 61 percent of Americans oppose and assault weapons ban similar to that which was imposed under the Bill Clinton administration.

Clinton has fervently advocated for a renewed ban on firearms that were covered under the original ban, including the wildly popular AR-15 rifle platform.

“I believe weapons of war have no place on our streets,” Clinton said over the summer, falsely equating semi-automatic sporting firearms to their fully auto military counterparts.

The Clinton campaign has the backing of major gun control groups which also support draconian new gun bans—but according to the new Gallup numbers, 2nd Amendment haters probably make up a smaller portion of the Democratic base than Clinton would have you believe.

Just 50 percent of likely Democratic voters say they’re with Hillary when it comes to banning popular sporting arms.

Among all voters, even fewer Americans (23 percent) say they’d support a handgun ban.

Gallup says the growing disfavor for gun bans likely has something to do with a growing distrust of government— which is arguably precisely the reason the 2nd Amendment was included in the Constitution.

Via the polling agency: “It is possible this represents a backlash against calls by some in the national media and the federal government to ban certain weapons after mass shootings occur. This backlash may reflect growing apprehension that the government may infringe upon particular civil and personal liberties.”

Gallup adds: “It is striking — and unusual — that fewer Democrats than ever support an assault weapons ban, since the Democratic Party has been instrumental in pushing for stricter gun laws.”

Back when the original assault weapons ban was signed into law it was pushed as a part of a broader anti-crime bill, which made more Americans willing to support the attack on the 2nd Amendment. Even by the year 2000, 59 percent of Americans favored the ban.

But since the law lapsed under the Bush administration, support for a renewal has steadily declined.

During the original Clinton ban, prices for firearms that could no longer be manufactured shot up. If Clinton is elected and pushes a similar law, the same thing is going to happen. But the effect may be compounded based on the larger population of Americans who today would decry such a ban and possibly scramble to get their hands on firearms it would soon be illegal to manufacture.

More importantly, if Clinton did get her ban, you can bet she wouldn’t allow a sunset provision like the one that allowed the original to lapse. In other words, it would be here to stay.

If you have the firearms or accessories banned under the original Clinton attack on the 2nd Amendment sitting in your gun safe, hang on to them. If not, it may be a good idea to do a little shopping between the election and January.
