It’s been joked that martial arts champion, film and television actor and author and commentator Chuck Norris doesn’t endorse candidates for president – he decides who will win.
It’s all part of the “Chuck Norris facts” phenomenon in which it’s said he doesn’t do “pushups,” he pushes the earth down, and the bogeyman checks his closet and under his bed for Chuck Norris before he goes to bed.
But there’s a certain seriousness in the newest public service announcement he recorded for the 2016 election, along with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
It’s because it’s about the Second Amendment, which despite all the politically charged commentary trying to portray it as a protection for hunters, it actually was adopted with the clear view that it would keep the nation’s government from turning to tyranny because of an armed populace.
He’s asking, instructing actually, people to vote, because of the political agenda that could threaten American freedoms and render the nation’s citizens without a defense.

“Hi, I’m Chuck Norris. You and I both know that in this election our Second Amendment rights are on the line,” he explains. “That’s why I’ve teamed up with Gov. Greg Abbott to encourage all gun owners to vote this November.
Abbott explains, “From the White House to the Supreme Court, your gun rights are at risk. But if you vote they will hear us loud and clear in Washington, D.C. Our message to them, come and take it.”
Chuck Norris adds, “Visit our website below, and do all you can to save our Second Amendment.”
At that website, there’s a signup option to get information about gun rights.
The Second Amendment actually contains only 27 words:
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
But literally thousands of pages of court arguments have been generated by differing views on that protection for Americans’ rights, which the nation’s founding documents affirm actually are God-given.
And the looming presidential election offers a stark contrast in those perspectives, with Democrat Hillary Clinton publicly opposing during the presidential debates the Supreme Court’s result in the Heller case.
That decision allowed residents of Washington, D.C., to have a gun for self-protection. Before the court challenge, handguns were banned outright and long guns were required to be kept “unloaded, with a trigger lock in pace or with the gun disassembled at all times.”
Clinton said she had wanted the decision to continue those bans, to protect “toddlers,” even though toddlers were no part of the case at issue.
Donald Trump, on the other hand, has said he would appoint Supreme Court justices who support the Second Amendment in order to move the nation back from the precipice of a high court ruling that would undermine Americans’ rights.
“I am looking to appoint judges very much in the mold of Justice [Antonin] Scalia … People that will respect the Constitution of the United States. And I think that this is so important – also, the Second Amendment which is totally under siege by people like Hillary Clinton.”
In comments to WND, Norris pointed out that just in June, 10 more executive orders came from Barack Obama restricting guns rights.
He commented, “Knowing that the next president will appoint from two to four new justices on the U.S. Supreme Court, the roughly 100 million firearm bearers in this country – early one-third of America – have a right to be concerned.”
Norris several weeks ago wrote in his column on WND that he found eight similarities between Ronald Reagan, whom he knew, and Donald Trump.
He noted they both were entertainers, were considered liberal Democrats before becoming conservative Republicans, both were attacked by the GOP establishment, few pundits believed they could win, both addressed immigration reform, both advocated religious liberty, both called to “Make American Great Again,” and both picked conventional Republicans as vice presidents.
Norris has been writing a weekly column exclusively for WND since Oct. 23, 2006. The star of “Walker: Texas Ranger” and some of the biggest action pictures ever, such as “Expendables 2,” Norris has also reached a new generation as part of the Internet craze for one-liners usually labeled not as jokes but as “facts.”

In 2008, Zeta Interactive confirmed that when Norris endorsed former Arkansas Gov. Huckabee in a WND column, it sparked a spike of 66 percent in Internet posts on Huckabee.
When Norris wrote of his endorsement of Huckabee, the former governor was holding support from about eight percent of voters, according to Rasmussen Reports, which is considered one of the most accurate tracking polls available.
Within a couple days, the time it took for the Norris column to make the rounds of the blogs and media sites, Huckabee’s support rose to 10 percent, his first time ever in double digits, and within another day it was at 12 percent.
Huckabee’s campaign also reported a surge in campaign contributions – of about $550,000 – in just days after the Norris endorsement.
Norris’ career began not in movies, television or in the world of Internet trivia. The man who has employed martial arts in so many of his pictures first came to the world’s attention as a real-life martial arts star. He was a six-time undefeated World Professional MiddleWeight Karate Champion. He was also a renowned teacher in the martial arts, with celebrity students including Steve McQueen, Bob Barker, Priscilla Presley and Donnie and Marie Osmond.
He has gone on to found the United Fighting Arts Federation with more than 2,300 black belts all over the world. In 1997, Norris achieved another milestone in his life by being the first man ever in the Western Hemisphere to be awarded an eighth-degree Black Belt Grand Master recognition in the Tae Kwon Do system. This was a first in 4,500 years of tradition.
The Norrises share that next to their family, their greatest mission in life is their KICKSTART KIDS Foundation. In 1992 with the help of President George H.W. Bush, the program was launched in four public middle schools in Houston.
