Can Clinton lead from prison? FBI re-opens email investigation

With just 11 days until Americans head to the polls to elect a new president, FBI Director James Comey announced that the agency has located additional emails Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton may have mishandled as the nation’s top diplomat. The Democratic candidate for president is again under FBI investigation.

According to a letter Comey sent to lawmakers, the agency located the new emails “in connection with an unrelated case.”

“I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.

“Although the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant, and I cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work, I believe it is important to update your Committees about our efforts in light of my previous testimony,” Comey continued.

Over the summer, the FBI announced that it wouldn’t pursue the case against Clinton for her handling of emails while serving as the nation’s top diplomat, a move that frustrated congressional Republicans and American conservatives.

Soon after the FBI announcement, Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump suggested the turn of events should immediately disqualify Clinton from running for office.

“Hillary Clinton’s corruption is on a scale we have never seen before. We must never let her take her criminal scheme into the Oval Office,” Trump said in New Hampshire.

The GOP candidate, who criticized the FBI’s original investigation into Clinton’s State Department emails, added, “I have great respect for the fact that the FBI and the Department of Justice are now willing to have the courage to right the horrible mistake that they made.”

Clinton’s email woes could be further complicated by a Judicial Watch lawsuit filed Friday demanding that the FBI turn over records related to its original investigation into the Democratic candidate’s emails.

Via Judicial Watch: “There is significant controversy about whether the FBI and Obama Justice Department investigation gave Clinton and other witnesses and potential targets preferential treatment.

“The FBI extended numerous immunity agreements, including: Clinton’s former Chief of Staff Cheryl Mills; John Bentel, former director of the State Department’s Office of Information Resources Management; Heather Samuelson, Clinton’s executive assistant; Brian Pagliano, an IT employee at the State Department who serviced the Clinton non-government server; and an employee at Platt River Networks, the company that maintained it.  It is not clear whether Hillary Clinton received some type of immunity,” the organization added, explaining the basis of its FOIA lawsuit.

While the renewed FBI investigation and Judicial Watch lawsuit are unlikely to produce much information ahead of the Nov. 8 election, both have the potential to cripple Clinton’s ability to lead the nation by massively stirring controversy if she is elected.
