Email leak: Democrats REALLY don’t want to talk about Common Core

American parents hate them. Conservatives hate them. And left-leaning teachers unions hate them. But that didn’t stop the Obama administration from forcing the implementation of federal Common Core education standards.

Now, Democrats don’t want to talk about the standards.

That’s according to the contents of DNC communications provided via a Wikileaks data dump last week.

In a May 3 email, DNC deputy communications director Eric Walker told party members to avoid highlighting Republican comments about eliminating Common Core because most Americans disagree with the federal standards.

“Common Core is a political third rail that we should not be touching at all. Get rid of it,” he said of a Democratic advertisement.

He added: “Most people want local control of education so having Cruz and Trump saying it on a DNC video is counterproductive. Would get rid of any references to that.”

Here’s a little background on the standards from a 2013 Bob Livingston piece:

Cash-strapped States grasped onto Common Core as a lifeline. President Barack Obama offered them hundreds of millions of dollars in “stimulus” funds and relief from the insidious No Child Left Behind standards that were to hit in full force in 2014. They did so sight unseen, based on the recommendation of two progressive lobbying groups, the National Governor’s Association (NGA) and Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) — the groups that hold copyrights over the standards. The standards were written by the leftist ACHIEVE, Inc., without input from State legislators, school boards, teachers or parents.

In addition to Federal “stimulus” dollars, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has dumped nearly $200 million into Common Core through the NGA, CCSSO, ACHIEVE, teachers’ unions, nonprofits and State and local school boards that are pushing Common Core.

As Common Core standards were more widely implemented throughout the nation, even folks who once supported the education “reforms” began to see the huge problems behind the crony standards.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, once one of Common Core’s biggest proponents, said last year of the program: “The evidence of failure is everywhere.”

Still, the Democratic establishment is unwilling to admit that Common Core was a bad idea. In fact, its current standard bearer Hillary Clinton remains a huge fan of the federal education takeover.

Just don’t expect to hear her talk about it anytime soon.
