The Trump campaign went into defense mode Monday, calling a former aide’s filing of a sexual-discrimination complaint against the front-runner “without merit” and totally false.
“These claims from a disgruntled former part-time employee are without merit,” said Hope Hicks, a spokeswoman for Donald Trump, Reuters reported. “She is in violation of her contract and continues to disparage the campaign with falsehoods, which, in addition to doing a terrible job, is why she was terminated weeks ago.”
The former campaign official, Elizabeth Mae Davidson, served as an organizer in the Trump campaign in Iowa, the news site reported. She filed a complaint with the Civil Rights Commission in Davenport, Iowa, claiming female campaign staffers weren’t paid as much as their male counterparts.
She also alleged she requested several times to speak at Trump’s campaign stops, and was denied – but that several of her male colleagues were given that opportunity, Reuters reported.
Reuters reported Davidson also said Trump spoke of her physical appearance, and that of a female colleague, with a reference: “You guys could do a lot of damage,” the New York Times reported.
The New York Times said Trump denied making that remark and also said he couldn’t recall Davidson, but said he was informed she had done “a terrible job” on the campaign trail, Reuters reported.
Davidson was fired on January 14, Reuters said.
