Mainstream media mind control failed… so the establishment vows to dismantle alternative sources

Declaring Hillary Clinton the only serious candidate for president and guaranteeing she’d win the election were the biggest mistakes mainstream media ever made.

It’s no secret that the mainstream media elite were considered a massive asset to the Clinton campaign. That’s because the Clinton political dynasty perfected a formula for providing powerful members of the news media ego-stroking access in return for favorable political coverage decades ago.

But Clinton a perfect storm of record low voter trust in mainstream media institutions and transparency groups like WikiLeaks making Clinton’s scandals unavoidable vastly damaged the candidate’s ability to manipulate voter opinions via the media.

Not that she didn’t try by having Trump portrayed as a total racist, misogynist and otherwise “unfit” for the presidency. And we’ll be dealing with the consequences of that for some time in the form of the sort of violent protests we’re seeing now or other outbursts from angry leftists.

There are plenty of other folks who are happy about Trump’s election, many of them avid consumers of news from alternative conservative media outlets.

And rather than focus on their own failures to retain the public trust— relegating MSM pundits to the role of whipping up anger among some of the nation’s least informed voters— many in the media establishment want that conservative faction dismantled.

Such was the topic of a column last month from Business Insider politics editor Oliver Darcy and senior reporter Pamela Engel which declared: “The GOP must do something about the conservative media industrial complex if it wants to survive.”

The piece takes to task web-based conservative media and right of center talk radio hosts for creating an environment where someone who isn’t a polished politician could become a serious candidate for president by expressing conservative beliefs.

From the piece:

Trump did not create the conditions ripe for his candidacy. The conservative media industrial complex and apprehensive Republican leaders were responsible for that.

Years before the real-estate tycoon entered onto the political stage, the conservative press — made up of a handful of websites, talk radio, and Fox News opinion programming — started to move the center of gravity in the Republican base further and further right.

By the beginning of the 2016 election cycle, a Republican hoping to secure office would all but need to take the hardline conservative position on every issue to avoid being characterized as a squishy moderate. If a Republican were to hold conservative positions on 90% of the issues, for instance, the conservative press would roast the candidate for the 10% on which there was disagreement.

Perhaps if Clinton had been “roasted” on as little as 10 percent of her scandals by the liberal news media, the Democrats would have run a candidate that could’ve beaten Trump?
