Dems call for gun control in wake of Ohio State stabbing spree

It apparently doesn’t matter that the suspect who stabbed at Ohio State University students with a butcher knife didn’t have a gun – or that the attacker was stopped by armed police officers – or that the college is a gun-free zone – because Democrats wasted no time Monday before they began demanding gun control.

As WND reported, police shot and killed a Somali refugee as he was attacking students with the knife outside a science building. The dead attacker was believed to be an Ohio State student — a Somali refugee, with permanent legal residence in the U.S., who lived near campus. There were 10 victims, some suffered injuries from a car running into them while others were treated for stab wounds. Nine were listed in stable condition, and one was critical. Two victims were sent into surgery but are expected to survive.

The story Monday was originally reported as an “active shooter” on the OSU campus as the university police texted instructions for students to “shelter in place” and avoid parts of the sprawling campus. But when the dust had settled, police said there never was any “shooter” on the campus. Ohio State University is a gun-free zone. Only police are allowed to carry guns on campus.

Nonetheless, Democrats prematurely rushed to Twitter to blame the attack on lax gun laws, the Daily Caller reported. News anchors, columnists, legislators, actors and the founder of the pro-gun control Moms Demand Action immediately decried the “senseless shooting” and called for stricter laws:

Some responses to his tweet included:

  • “Isn’t OSU a gun-free zone? Is that NOT gun control?”
  • “Gun control only stops those who respect the law in the first place.”
  • “Good thing the cop had a gun wasn’t it? It most likely saved lives and is our constitutional right.”
  • “This was a gun free zone. The attacker didn’t have a gun. A guy with a gun stopped the carnage. What are you missing?”
  • “If you’re NOT for #butcherknifecontrol, don’t even bother praying for the people of OSU!”
  • “That’s the biggest load of B.S. I’ve heard today and I work in customer service.”

Upon hearing news that the attacker did not have a gun, some gun-control advocates promptly deleted their tweets.

As WND reported, Monday’s attack on the OSU campus is the second such knife attack in Columbus this year by a Muslim immigrant. In February four people were wounded, one critically, at the Nazareth Mediterranean Restaurant in Columbus owned by an Arab Christian. The attacker in that case was Mohamed Barry, an immigrant from the African country of Guinea who slashed diners with a machete before he was killed by police while shouting “Allahu Akbar!”

One year ago in November 2015 an 18-year-old Muslim student Faisal Mohammad went on a stabbing spree at the University of California at Merced, wounding four fellow students before he was shot dead by an officer.

And in September of this year a Somali refugee living in Minnesota went on a stabbing spree at a mall in St. Cloud, injuring 10 people before he was shot and killed by an alert off-duty cop. He asked shoppers if they were Muslim and if they said no, he attacked them with his knife.
