Hitler hysteria: ‘Trump swastika’ outside polling station

Donald Trump’s critics used Super Tuesday to liken him to the Nazi war machine responsible for killing up to 6 million Jews during World War II.

A “Stop Trump” swastika popped up in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday as Republican primary voters began casting ballots. Protesters outside one of the city’s polling stations also carried signs featuring Trump’s visage with an Adolf Hitler-inspired mustache that said “Absolutely no Mexicans.”

The image, tweeted by the Guardian’s Ben Jacobs, is reminiscent of another sign seen last December in Atlanta, Georgia. That drawing featured a Hilter-like Trump wearing a bow tie made from a $100 bill.

The uptick in Nazi imagery corresponds with attacks over the billionaire’s odd exchange with CNN’s Jake Tapper last Sunday. Trump failed to forcefully condemn former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke during the broadcast, which he attributes to a malfunctioning earpiece.

“I was sitting in a house in Florida with a bad earpiece,” Trump told NBC’s “Today” show on Monday. “I could hardly hear what he was saying. I heard various groups. I don’t mind disavowing anyone. I disavowed Duke the day before at a major conference.”

It appears unlikely that voters will be influenced by such attacks, particularly since they are favored by former Mexican President Vicente Fox.

“I mean, he reminds me of Hitler. That’s the way he started speaking,” Fox told CNN on Feb. 26 regarding Trump’s plan to deport 12 million illegal immigrants and build a giant wall along the southern U.S. border.

A new nationwide CNN/ORC poll released Monday shows Trump with a large lead over his GOP rivals. The billionaire enjoys 49 percent support among Republican voters compared to 16 percent for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and 15 percent for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

The survey was conducted Feb. 24-27 among 427 Republicans and has a sampling error of plus or minus five percentage points.
