Sen. Marco Rubio, who came in third at the Iowa caucuses, behind Sen. Ted Cruz and billionaire businessman Donald Trump, is set to score a big endorsement this week from a fellow senator, Tim Scott, who rode the wave of South Carolina tea party support into office.
Scott is also the only black senator to serve on the Republican side on Capitol Hill. And his endorsement was much-coveted.
As Politico reported: “The endorsement comes at a time of growing anxiety in establishment GOP circles, with many in the party hierarchy worried that Rubio, John Kasich, Jeb Bush and Chris Christie are dividing the establishment vote. There is hope among Rubio’s backers that Scott’s support, coupled with at least a third-place finish in the Iowa caucuses, will help him unite the party.”
Rubio previously won a big endorsement from South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy, considered one of the Republican Party’s pit-bulls in Congress in terms of investigating Hillary Clinton’s many scandals.
Bush, along with other Republican candidates, actively sought Scott’s endorsement.
